00_00071.jpg (77679 bytes) I'm using Cobalt Blue and Zinc White for the sky. A very small amount of blue mixed with the white gives the effect I want. Using a flat brush, I use horizontal strokes from one side of the canvas to the other. This keeps the color even. My color intensity is slightly greater at the top and gradually decreases as I work the color downward.

I mix my own medium using artist grade turpentine and high quality linseed oil or stand oil. I never use odorless turpentine as I've found it to have an adverse effect on my brushes. I do not use dryers such as cobalt dryer or Japan dryer because I like to be able to work the paint as long as possible.

I made my own pallet from a piece of glass painted white on the back side.  This gives me a bright hard surface to mix my paint on.

After cleaning my brushes in turpentine, I hang them bristles down. This keeps oils from working down into the ferules of the brush. Since I've been doing this, my brushes last much longer and hold their shape.
